I've also seen a male-version of this ad, instead of knitting its about woodworking.
Does anyone find this ad offensive? I tend to not care about this sort of thing, but this ad kinda rubs me the wrong way. It implies that running is better than knitting...but they are totally different endeavors.
I have met competitive knitters. :) I also bristle at this ad, since I was a knitter when I was winning my age group in triathlons back in my more athletic past. Knitting's not something that you do only if you can't manage to do anything else!
Knitting can become competitive if you let it. Ask me how I know.
I've seen the ad and have mixed feelings about it. I certainly don't view knitting as a "when all else fails..." activity. But I agree that knitters are generally happy people. So are runners, for that matter. I love catching the endorphin high at the end of a run.
It is kind of offensive, but I just kind of laugh it off. I remember when I first saw it was like, "What? Just because I knit doesn't mean I can't run?" They're just tring to play off the stereotype, "passive" versus "active" activities.
I think it's kind of offensive, but whatever. I think it tries to get people to buy into the stereotype that only elderly people knit and as we all know, that's crap. Someone ought to clue Asics in.

That's too funny! If only the folks at Asics knew that there were people who enjoyed knitting *and* running. :)
